Musée de Fromelles

Between 19 and 20 July 1916, during World War I, Australian troops AIF fought for the first time on the Western Front, against German troops in the fields of Fromelles. After a night and a day of fighting, 1500 british and 5533 australians soldiers were killed, wounded or taken prisoner.

A cemetery was created after the excavations. The objectif was to build the museum next to it. The shape of the path looks closer to the cemetery ‘s geometry . It consists on presenting the battle of Fromelles, its contexts and the Forces presented.

The visitor takes a long slope and pass through differents sequences. A rich collection presents some artefacts found in the excavations after 80 years…The visitor at the end is brought face to face to the portraits of the soldiers identified and found in Fromelles.
